julia noulin.mérat hails from Montreal, Canada and is now a New York/ Boston based set designer. Most recently Julia has designed The Barber of Seville for the Opera Institute, The Elixir of Love for Sugar Creek Symphony & Song festival and Little Red Ridding Hood, The Telephone for Opera Boston. Recent theatrical credits include Moonchildren, Dark Play or Stories for boys, Dancing at Lughnasa, Rhinoceros, Proof, The Firebugs, The Ugly One, and Language of Angels. Since September 07, she has been working at Derek McLane’s studio (33 Variations, Ruined, The Visit), was the assistant scenic designer for Opera Boston’s 2007-08 season (where she worked on Ainadamar with Peter Sellars and she assisted Gronk), was selected to participate at the USITT Young Designers’ Forum in Houston, Texas, and sporadically set designs on Guiding Light, CBS. She was a set designer at the Hangar Theatre, Lab Company 2007 and is now returning to design on the mainstage this summer. Julia has a BFA in Design for the Theatre from Concordia University in Montreal, an MSc in Arts Administration and an MFA in Scenic Design from Boston University.
